Because Dean Haglund is packing up for Galaxy Fest in Colorado Springs, Colorado (to perform comedy and show The Truth Is Out There), and Phil Leirness is hitting the road for the 2012 International UFO Congress in Fountain Hills, Arizona (where the TRUTH is also screening), this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour is coming to you a few hours later than we like.

It is, however, one of our very best shows!

That it’s President’s Day in the U.S. leads to a discussion of presidential UFO lore, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, JFK, Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball and Merv Griffin. The special friendship between The UK’s “The Midweek Drive” and YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, leads to a discussion of Phil’s pajamas and his forthcoming tour of the UK. The book The Wayfinders leads to a discussion of cultural relativism, the biosphere, the ethnosphere, the living history of Los Angeles, and Dreamtime and The Dream Factory. An Albert Einstein quote leads to a discussion of the intuitive mind and the rational mind and the way we might move beyond divisiveness in an effort to address the common challenges facing us all. The Chillpak Hollywood Live Event of the Week leads to a discussion of Phil’s admiration for an actress he had never before seen, the best director working in theatre today, and the way storytellers’ strengths in one medium can serve as weakness in another.

All that, plus TWO Chillpak Hollywood Lawsuits of the Week (the one involving Chris Pine, “Captain Kirk” from JJ Abrams’ re-boot of Star Trek is a particular hoot.

Your friends in podcasting definitely brought their “A” game. We hope you will enjoy it enough to share it with others …

On Sunday, your friends in podcasting, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness, were in Portland, Oregon for an event commemorating the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. While their film The Truth is Out There played inside the Bing Lounge, Dean and Phil sat in the PacWest Center green room with the host of the evening, Clyde Lewis, to record this week’s show.

Clyde Lewis is the fantastic host of the extremely popular “Ground Zero” which airs on KXL News Radio in Portland and which streams on www.GroundZeroMedia.org (where you can also find podcasts of Clyde’s past shows INCLUDING this past Thursday’s show, on which Phil was the guest, and Sunday’s show in front of a live audience, on which Dean was the guest).

How will we view the events of 9/11 2001 as we move forward? Will there ever be a true criminal investigation of those events? Will Dean and Phil change the name of their weekly podcast to “Bag Full of Rainbows”?

Find out the answer to these burning questions and many many more on this week’s installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

Happy 2011! Welcome to a very special episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour. This is the 4th year running that your friends in podcasting, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness will boldly proclaim their New Year’s Resolutions. First, they discuss the importance of resolutions before launching into a recap and appraisal of how each of them fared in living up to their resolutions for 2010. Finally, they state their goals for 2011, as well as the intent with which they intend to embody these resolutions.

Phil gets his geek on, discussing such Comic-Con panels as The Expendables, Cowboys and Aliens, The Other Guys, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and Drive Angry (Shot in 3D). Dean answers questions about that large scar on his forehead, about the seminars the FBI conducts with screenwriters, and about why he says, “Huzzah!” Dean and Phil analyze and debate why cable television has Emmy Award advantages over network television, whether The Secret Supper by Javier Sierra is a good book, and whether the paintings of Da Vinci qualify as art or as propaganda. Taking on Da Vinci? Who, but your friends in podcasting would dare do that?!! Finally, several big movies are discussed: SALT, Inception, Cyrus, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Restrepo.

Three years in the making! From the art deco masterpiece that is the Eastern Columbia Building, high stop the historic core of the fashion district in downtown Los Angeles, all the way to London’s Lyceum Pub, Dean and Phil celebrate the third anniversary of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour on both sides of the pond! In L.A., your friends in podcasting discuss interviews they conducted (for their documentary) with Reg Presley (lead singer of The Troggs) and journalist Mark Bennett. They also introduce clips recorded in London where the Thelma and Louise of podcasting, along with special guests Graham Hancock (a renowned scholar and author who specializes in ancient mysteries) and Robin Tudge (who co-authored The Rough Guide to Conspiracies) participated in a panel discussion on conspiracy as part of the Sci-Fi-London Film Festival. Then, Dean and Phil hop over to a cozy booth in a favorite pub across town to toss back a couple dozen pints and to swap inappropriate jokes and filmmaking stories they’ve never shared. From crop circles to Cameron Diaz, from knowledge of lost civilizations to naughty nun jokes, there’s something for everyone. Eavesdrop on the conversation and enjoy!

It’s the USA vs. Canada, Thelma vs. Louise, Batman Begins vs. The Dark Knight, the 3-D Avatar vs.the black and white The White Ribbon … Dean and Phil are back from Laughlin, Nevada, where they attended the UFO Congress and interviewed David Sereda and Jordan Maxwell. Along the way, they tried to visit Baghdad and got stopped for felony speeding! All that, plus what harmonic bowls can teach us about the end of the Mayan Calendar, what it means to be over forty and interested in writing for television, and the return of Jay Leno on this free-wheeling installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

On Sunday, Dean and Phil drove all the way from Calgary, Alberta to Spokane, Washington. As soon as they crossed the border into the states, they recorded this podcast while driving through the natural splendor of Idaho’s panhandle Pile into the backseat of their rented RAV 4 and listen as your friends in podcasting discuss their on-going search for the truth in a world of conspiracy and their HELL GIGS documentary they shot with Roman Danylo in various parts of Alberta and supernatural British Columbia. Other topics include the war that has broken out in late night television, Jesse Ventura’s conspiracy show and the disaster in Haiti. Deprived of their usual podcast equipment, bringing this show to you again involved a great deal of work on Dean’s part, which is no problem at all as it is a labor of love. This is YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, after all!

Vince Gilligan spent Sunday night at the Emmy Awards, where his Breaking Bad leading man, Bryan Cranston, won the award for Best Actor in a Drama Series (for the second year in a row!). Today, Vince Gilligan, creator of the series (as well as a hugely admired writer-producer of films like Hancock and television series like The X-Files), is back with Dean and Phil for part two of their conversation. Also, Phil shares with Dean an idea for a film-making symposium he would like to bring to fan conventions. Is this too much for one show? Nah. In fact, it’s as simple as (Chillpak Hollywood Hour) 1-2-3 …

Dean and Phil begin this week’s show by wrapping up DragonCon, sharing some of their more bizarre, amusing and inspiring experiences. They then welcome a very special guest for the first part of a two-part interview. Vince Gilligan was one of the most prolific and respected writers and producers on The X-Files (as well as its spin-off series, The Lone Gunmen). He wrote the motion pictures Wilder NapalmHome Fries and Hancock. Now, he’s earning great accolades for his work on the AMC original series Breaking Bad, which he created.

That’s a hell of a lot of show for one hour, but what do you expect? This IS your Chillpak Hollywood Hour, after all!

This week’s show is all about the ladies! In part two of our three-part special all about acting, Dean and Phil discuss their favorite female performers of all time, both living and dead. A wide range of beautiful, brilliant, strong, fearless women from around the globe get discussed. If you like acting, actors, movies, women, or just plain enjoy listening to good conversation, you won’t want to miss this installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.
