Somehow, through almost 15 years of bringing you YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour free every week, Dean and Phil have never dedicated an entire show to the career, artistry and genius of Bill Murray. This week, that oversight gets remedied, as your friends in podcasting march right into the holidays by programming a film festival they are entitling “A Very Murray Christmas”. Featuring seven double features, discussion of numerous other titles, analysis of Murray’s zen approach to life, art, career and business, and an appreciation of some of his key collaborators through the year, we think this will be a particularly fun and festive hour!
Because the only way to truly let go is through gratitude, Dean and Phil spend this week’s show celebrating the Best of 2020! From space exploration to snail mail, from nanotechnology to basketball, from ice cream to the Criterion Collection, from television series you can stream to rooms that produce steam it’s an eclectic mix of items that get celebrated and discussed. Frequently hilarious, often thought-provoking, and even inspiring, it’s YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour wishing you a healthy and prosperous 2021!
On this week’s show, a Back to the Future actress, a legendary comic who helped launch the careers of numerous other comics, a game show legend, and a comedic actress who was one of Mel Brooks’ favorites all get remembered in “Celebrity Deaths”. Your friends in podcasting will pick up last week’s conversation comparing Superhero movies to westerns, extending the comparison to television. They will further dig down into the danger of taking anything too seriously, as well as the danger of “fast food”, as they examine the ways we consume information, entertainment, and express our political preferences. Then, after the break, Dean and Phil will discuss two new Sacha Baron Cohen films and two Bill Murray films. Finally, in “What We’re Reading”, Dean will discuss ice cream and Phil will discuss published works by two ladies in his life!
Year 13 of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour gets underway with Phil providing an update on his battle to regain his vision. He and Dean discuss some press they recently received for their film The Lady Killers as well as the latest progress on part 2 of their documentary The Truth Is Out There. Doris Day gets a few words of remembrance, though Peggy Lipton, Barbara Perry and Jim Fowler get the full “Celebrity Deaths” treatment. David Lynch gets debated (again), especially in light of how much he and Dean have in common! Some news and views on Avengers: Endgame and one excellent, Oscar-nominated film, and two really disappointing 2018 releases get reviewed. Join the Chillpak Mod Squad for year 13!
