This week’s show boasts several great stories, both about your friends in podcasting and about show business notables. Phil shares a touching tale of being reunited with a very famous old friend. He also shares personal memories about the late acting and singing star James Darren, and the NBA great Alvin Attles. And although he died almost two months ago, Dean and Phil finally take the time to offer a heartfelt remembrance of beloved fitness guru Richard Simmons. An email from friend of the show Maurice Terenzio leads to re-visiting the discussion Dean and Phil had a couple weeks back about game show icon Peter Marshall, (the email is a GOOD one!). Another email from a fan who hosts his very own medical show leads to a very thoughtful and interesting conversation as Dean and Phil consider an invitation to appear on this man’s show and discuss Dean’s ongoing interest in the paranormal. Finally, Phil brings back the “vintage movie ad” game, and quizzes Dean about three cinematic releases from September of 1987!

This show runs the gamut geographically from the U.K. to Detroit, and from Los Angeles to Laguna Beach. This week’s show begins with a cold open about Spanish film star Carmen Sevilla. It continues with Dean and Phil previewing an email from a loyal listener (that they will answer on NEXT week’s show). The email involves the ongoing Writer’s Guild strike and Dean and Phil use it as a springboard to discussing the latest labor negotiation news in Hollywood and to ponder the question “Is Ryan Murphy (once again) the worst person in the world?” Last week, the life and career of Oscar-winner Glenda Jackson was celebrated. This week, Phil reveals tidbits from her final (?) still-to-be-released movie, The Great Escaper (starring Michael Caine). After that, Dean and Phil offer up remembrances of three more great stars of the silver (and small) screen: Julian Sands, Frederic Forrest, and Treat Williams. The second half of the show is all about Indiana Jones (and “The Dial of Destiny”), Akira Kurosawa (and two of his independent films), and the Martin Scorsese classic Raging Bull.
