Dean and Phil have quite the array of topics to discuss, including a recent Marvel film, a Neil Simon comedy from the 1970s, all the big award-winners at the recent Cannes Film Festival, and a director’s cut of Chris Carter’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Both the Australian and the American versions of “Laid” get discussed, and art, architecture, history and more get discussed in the return of “What We Are Reading”. Two beloved television stars and a legendary comedian get remembered in “Celebrity Deaths”. Finally, good pal of the show Marc Hershon drops by to offer up two new television show recommendations that both sound awesome!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour – Year 19 Episode 1

Phil is back from Fort Worth, Texas, and has a Logan’s Run location story to share with Dean. Phil also regales Dean with the story behind a delicious cocktail at the Grand Hotel in Oslo (named in “honor” of pop icon Madonna). Dean and Phil try to make sense of Jon Voight’s plans to “save” Hollywood and how the President seized on those plans while probably misunderstanding them completely and/or intentionally. Meanwhile, “Sinners” might end up affecting real change in the film business and your friends in podcasting will discuss how. One of the all-time great actors, William Holden, and one of the all-time great actresses, Barbara Stanwyck, get discussed through the prism of two films: Executive Suite and Stella Dallas, and THE all-time greatest film (according to the 2022 Sight and Sound poll) also gets analyzed. This film is celebrating its 50th anniversary and so the conversation turns to other films of the era, including, perhaps, the greatest of all Francis Coppola films (and no, we’re not talking about The Godfather Part II).

Chillpak Hollywood Hour – Season 3 Episode 74

A question about UFO Disclosure from a listener leads to a fascinating, hilarious and inspiring opening to this week’s show. Afterwards, Dean and Phil follow up on their (ongoing) discussion surrounding the Kirk Douglas-starring musical version of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by appreciating the all-too overlooked actress Susan Hampshire and by revealing something Douglas’ co-star Donald Pleasance once revealed about the making of that film. After that, Dean and Phil follow up on last week’s discussion about the silent classic Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans by exploring the fascinating life story of that film’s star, Janet Gaynor. One new film and two Disney classics get appraised, and two Oscar-winning stars get remembered in “Celebrity Deaths”!

Chillpak Hollywood Hour – Season 3 Episode 72

After a cold open about the founder of Hollywood’s Magic Castle and about the greatest professional football player of all time, this week’s show gets started with Dean discussing upcoming “X-Files” convention appearances. And, thanks to an email from a loyal listener like you (yes, YOU!), Dean will share one of the most hilarious behind-the-scenes stories about the making of “The X-Files”. Another email from friend of the show Maurice Terenzio might just be the funniest Dean and Phil have ever received! It will get shared in all its glory. Movies are foremost on Phil’s mind this week and such titles as Armageddon Time, Renfield and the documentary Lynch/Oz will get discussed, as will a wonderful comedy-horror film called Evil Sublet. The current SAG-AFTRA negotiations with the producers will get touched upon as those negotiations relate to the “Salkind clause”, AI, and soap operas.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour – Season 2 Episode 94

On this week’s installment, you will hear a touching email written by a Dean Haglund fan, one whose entire career path was influenced by Dean! You will also learn what Dean’s 3 favorite places are! One MIGHT be The Magic Castle in Hollywood. At least ten movies will get discussed, including classics starring a few of Dean and Phil’s all time favorite actors as well as two of the best films from 2020 – one an all-time great documentary and the other perhaps the most relevant film to be released all of last year. Finally, Phil wants to discuss three 2021 cinematic releases all starring legendary comedians. One is a horror film, one is an action film and one is a comedy about dementia! And speaking of comedians, Norm MacDonald will get remembered in “Celebrity Deaths” as will one of the greatest contemporary actors, an icon of movie musicals and a pioneering female writer and producer.

Chillpak Hollywood Hour – Season 2 Episode 51

You will hear Dean and Phil discuss a wide array of topics, such as their all-time favorite television episodes, an amazing story about a theater company in 1991, the importance of (and lack of) local news, the ways life will have changed even after the pandemic is in our collective rearview mirror, some hilarious observations about pandemic life, and a little-known, truly bad-ass recording by the most famous singer to come out of Tupelo, Mississippi. Oh, yeah, and how Dolly Parton might just save us all!
